Books – Restore Cars Fast Car Restoration Help

Look. I admit, I am not the world’s absolute top expert on car restoration, I haven’t attended years of  auto mechanics classes or done any shop apprenticeships. I haven’t worked in a car factory or a restoration shop for half my life and in fact I wasn’t even on this planet when most of the cars I have worked on have been built. But I have done one thing that most of the “experts” never actually accomplish. And that is, I have restored several classic and muscle cars from start to finish entirely by myself. I have been successful at doing this for two reasons: one is that this is what I love to do and it brings me great pleasure, and two is that I believe that because I have no extensive theory training, there is nothing holding me back and stopping me from doing what I love to do. Look at it this way, if as a kid you got a big set of lego to play with and then right when you’re about to start your parents would tell you that you’re not allowed to play with it until you read all the instructions and then pass the test and a whole bunch of training. Would you really want to play with your lego? And even after you did all the training and tests, by then you probably wouldn’t have any excitement or urge left to play with the puzzle. Well it’s the same thing with cars, rather than wait around and do a whole bunch of tests I just jumped right in and started playing. I’ve been playing with this big boy lego since I was 17 and have never looked back. All the questions and problems…

Due to old age, some of the cars are no longer repairable. Repair shops can try to fix the car and make it running for a days or months but eventually, it will lay helpless on the middle of the road. At some point, people keep their cars for sentimental values but this is not worth to be so dramatic about owning a car if that is an irreparable car indeed.

You would confuse if this situation happens to you so here are the guides on what to do when your car goes irreparable. First thing to do is call your manufacturer, you can ask for any opinions from them. If that is no good, you can call your car insurance provider, at most time the car insurance policy is covered by the manufacturer as well. Try to ask them if there are any programs that they can offer for you. Check your qualifications if you are qualified whenever an available program is offered. In some cases, they will offer you to buy a new car with them in a cheaper rate and they will junk your car, it depends on case to case basis depending on the insurance policy you have with them.

Second, you can try to confirm with another repair shop if you really want to have your car repaired. But in most cases, this is not a good idea after all. But in case you do, make it sure that they will cover the warranty of the repair. This is just to make sure that you are not coming over and over with the same damage of your car. A high fee may be maybe required to do this option since overhaul or part replacements will be badly needed.

Check for any trades that you can have. At most cases, since your car is considered damaged, they might have a trade that qualifies you but it’s a second hand in most cases and you still have to pay them but not exactly the actual cost of the car you are getting for trade. This option is very rare though.

If all the mentioned options are no good then we have no choice but to bring the car on a car cemetery. That would be a final destination of all unused, damaged cars, bring them to junk. Recycling is the main reason why we bring it in there. It’s still the environment and us that will be affected if we don’t dispose that big garbage properly. Or in some areas, there are junk shops whose buying damaged cars, so in case you want to sold your car even in a couple of box. Junk shops sometimes get the useful and undamaged spare to reuse any parts possible.

But they will only get a few spare and then your car will be junk afterwards. Not all parts are useful so it will still go to junk and will be recycled for any metals whatsoever.

Car brakes must be kept in the best condition at all times. Always remember that break problems does not occur suddenly in just one hit. A lot of accidents are caused by break problems.

These kinds of problems occur if you felt like there is something that holding on to your pedal to move before your break will bite. Or if it takes a several seconds to click while pulling your handbrake before the car will get hold, then it must be considered for some factors like indications of air in the car system or maybe it needs some adjustments. Before you run your car, make it sure that there are no trace of brake problem tendencies, so to avoid any accidents.

It is also very important to check your tires before running. It would include the pressure on the tires. Every tire has a minimum depth tread, so if you are driving with a poor conditioned tire, accident is most likely riding with you. So it is very important that the tires are checked before any take offs.

You must drive with the right amount of oil. It is advisable to check your oil 2 or 3 times a week. Your car is at risk if your oil is not on the right amount. However, you must only do the oil check if your car’s engine is cool and the important thing is that the car is on the flat area. Other maintenance to perform is checking the coolant. This is very important for those who travel long distance. Coolant protects your car against overheat. And in the summer season, it is very important that you check your coolant often to secure good cooling system.

Those tips are only the basic and primary advanced maintenance for car owners. None of that maintenance is hard or expensive. By doing so, it is a guarantee that your car will live long and running smoothly even on rough roads.

Owning a car comes with a lot of benefits, and responsibilities as well. As a responsible driver, you must take good care of your car, regularly checking it and going for immediate car repairs when the need arises. No matter how good your car is, there will come a time when some of its parts will bog down due to normal wear and tear.

The different parts of your car are prone to aging, especially if you drive extensively. However, there are things that you can do to avoid a lot of repair expenses, as follows:

• If budget is not a constraint, better purchase a brand new car in the first place. This will usually include warranties for parts and even cover free servicing for a given period of time.

• Expand your car insurance coverage to include collision insurance. Just in case you meet an accident, you won’t need to spend much on repair.

• It would be helpful if you have a car repair manual handy. You can refer to it for some technical information such as wiring diagrams, sensor locations, and many others. The manual is just like a first aid kit; it will help you figure out the trouble and help you fix it if it’s not that complicated.

Car Maintenance Tips

Other than the three general tips mentioned above, one other very important thing you should remember is to observe religious car maintenance. The basics include simple activities like checking the engine oil, transmission fluid, engine coolant, tires, and battery. You can refer to your owner’s manual to properly check these or you can ask the guidance of a professional mechanic.

• Tune-ups and oil changes should be done regularly. Cars should be tuned up every two years or 30,000 miles.

• Oil should be changed at least thrice a year to keep engine parts lubricated.

• Brake pads should also be replaced immediately when they’re worn out to avoid possibilities of accidents.

• Your radiator should be regularly cleaned to remove the solid deposits that cling to it over time. The cooling system should be regularly flushed as well.

• Fuel filters should be replaced immediately when they get clogged.

• The air filter should also be replaced when clogged to save on power and gas. A dirty air filter can retard the function of your air intake system, which is among those that regulate your car’s air-fuel mixture.

• Your air conditioning system should be regularly checked and recharged if necessary.

These are among the basic maintenance procedures that you should regularly undertake to avoid major car repairs. These can be done even at home to further save on cost. You can refer to websites or manuals that feature DIY car maintenance. Just make that sure you have clamps, wrenches, screwdrivers, and other basic tools at hand.

When you notice anything unusual in your car, immediately find the source of the problem. Attend to minor defects immediately so that they will not build up. If the defect is complicated, bring your car to an accredited repair shop at once. Life is not perfect and so is your car, so car repairs are inevitable. But with the right attitude, these should not be a problem.
